 Transformation of India - Objectives - Anthropological Survey of India

  • To generate detailed information on youth dormitory.
  • To delineate the attitude of tribal people toward youth dormitory.
  • To asses the dynamics of change in the form and content of the institution.
  • To document the transformation in visual anthropological context.
 Achievement
Under this project reports were finalized on the Dormitory System of Murias of Bastar. Reports have also been finalized on the Angami Nagas on Nagaland. In the second phase of fieldwork researchers completed fieldwork among the lalu of Assam. It is also proposed to cover the Garo of Meghalaya and Konyak Naga of Nagaland.

Anthropological Survey of India has launched a programme to document this institution of the tribal world which is at present in a dying stage. A plan for filming a documentary of the dormitory system and their relevance in contemporary tribal situation has been planned and North East Regional Centre, Shillong However, research scholars of NERC, have been working on the script of the film with the help of Sub Regional Station, Jagdalpur.
