Under the 11th Plan Project in the cultural anthropology division the project on “Traditional Knowledge Systems (TKS): Intangible and Tangible Cultural Heritages” is nearing completion. The following research reports 1) ‘Indigenous knowledge system of medicinal plants: a status study of development of scientifically validated drug ‘Jeevani’ based on Kani traditional knowledge of Arogyapacha by Dr. M. Sasi Kumar, Anthropologist, 2) Ethno-medicinal practice of the Bettakurumba by Dr. B.R. Vijayendra, Asstt. Anthropologist, 3) Report Submitted by Dr. G.V. Ramanna, Research Associate on ”Social Impact Assessment of Pollavaram Dam” is being examined by HOO, Mysore. Draft reports on intensive community study of the Kadar Tribe of Kerala and Tamil Nadu by Shri. R. Rajendra Prasad, Research Associate and Traditional Knowledge Systems Emerging Patterns of Cultural Pluralismof Nicobareses of Kachal Island by Dr D V Prasad AA (C) have been reviewed by the PI, Dr. B. Francis Kulirani, SA(C) and being revised. Other situations covered are 1) Shri. C. Raghu, Assistant Anthropologist, Intensive Tribal studies: The Kani Tribe of Papanasam in Tamil Nadu 2) Dr. M. Rajendra Prasad, Research Associate, Traditional Knowledge System- Nerona: A Desert Village 3) Dr. H. M. Maralusiddaiah, Research Associate, Traditional Knowledge System- Rudrapatna a Heritage Village in Karnataka. , the reporting is nearing completion.
A research team from SRC collected blood samples form Kani tribe of Thirvananthapuram, Kerala under the project “DNA Polymorphism on Contemporary Indian Population”. The analysis of the blood samples collected from the Paniyan tribe, Wayanad, Kerala is also under progress under the same project. PCR and sequencing of phylogeny Y-SNBs of different tribal populations is in progress at SRC, DNA lab.
Students of M.Sc., Bio-Technology from Shayadri Science College, Shimoga visited DNA Lab.

Completed field work on the project “Association Study of the Genetic Polymorphisms of the Transcription Factor 7-Like 2 (TCF7L2) Gene and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
A reconnoiter tour to Coorg District, Karnataka to the study of the Pani Yerava Tribe and their linkages with Paniya of Wayanad, Kerala on the request of TRI, Karnataka.
For the ensuing 17th IUAES 2013, Manchester UK three panels that have been proposed by Dr B Francis Kulirani SA (C) have been accepted.
HOO chaired sessions and participated in the National Seminar on “Portuguese and the Dutch in Maritime Malabar with special reference to the society in Cochin” held from 9th to 12th December 2011 at the St. Thomas College, Palai, Kerala organized by the Institute for Research in Social Science & Humanities (IRISH), Kannur District, Kerala, which was sponsored by AnSI.
20 students for Reva institute of Science and management, Bangalore visited our DNA Lab, Museum and Photo Gallery in December.
400 School children of four schools from Mysore city visited the SRC’s Zonal Museum in December 2011.
