Dr. S. Simon John has been given the award of young scholar Presidential award instituted by MHRD, for his contribution to Tamil Folk Lore Studies for the year 2007 – 2008 on 6th May 2001 at Rashtrapathi Bhawan . He was officially nominated by AnSI (Kolkata & Mysore). Dr. Simon John is RA (Folk Lore) attached to SRC, Mysore. Presently he is Associate professor (Folklore Studies) at Janapada Sampada Division, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi (on Deputation).

Dr. S.Simon John has worked as a Research Associate (Folklore) at Anthropological Survey of India since October, 2000 and is presently on deputation as an Associate Professor (Folklore Studies) at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi. He did his doctoral research on Children’s Folklore and has carried out extensive fieldwork and documentation of folk cultural practices in different parts of Tamil Nadu related to various projects of the Anthropological Survey of India. So far he has published 20 research papers and four books focused in Tamil Folklore studies. One of his research papers entitled ‘Human Body, folk Narratives and Rituals’ published from Free University, Germany has received an honorarium of 1000 Euro.
