A Brief Resume of Singnificant Activities, January 2012 - Andaman & Nicobar Center
Research Activities :
The Head of Office has attended the General Body meeting of AAJVS at Raj Niwas on 9th January, 2012 under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A & N Islands on behalf of the Director, Anthropological Survey of India & expressed anthropological views.
Dr. M. Sasi Kumar, DD(C) & Shri A. Justin, SA(C) participated in the Seminar in commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore held on 17th & 18th January 2012 in Kolkata organized by Anthropological Survey of India. They also attended the meeting to review the proposed 12th Five Year Plan and a realistic work-plan of the Survey from 19th to 24th January 2012 in Head Office, Kolkata.
To assist the Andaman & Nicobar Administration in reviewing “The Policy on Ang(Jarawa) Tribe of Andaman, 2004”, six research personnel of this Regional Centre conducted pilot study at different locations as mentioned against each team from the fag end of November, 2011 for a period of one month in connection with the project “The Ang (Jarawa) of Andaman Islands, Problem of Culture Contact & Conflicting Emerging Issue : An Anthropological Perspective.”
Invitation for participation & presentation of paper on the topic “Land, Forest, Water & Peoples: Competing Interests & Emerging Realities/Issues” were sent to different scholars of various organizations in connection with two-day national seminar on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee Celebration of this Regional Centre at Port Blair to be held tentatively from February 27 to 29, 2012.
The translated version of the book “The Nicobarese” in Hindi is under process. On completion of this work, it will be sent for publication.
